Our History Special Cutting Tools was founded in the early 1940's. The honing tools company originally produced "Special" tooling, the product from which our name was derived. During the 1970's, Special Cutting Tools decided to make a strategic move into the high tolerance field of honing tools and honing stones. During the last 30 years, Special Cutting Tools has arisen as an industry leader in developing honing tooling, fixturing, and abrasives. In 2007, the company expanded its product offerings through the purchase of Burr-Ban, a complete line of single pass clothespin style hole-deburring tools. Our Company We are a leading designer and manufacturer of honing tools, fixtures and turnkey processes for many blue chip companies around the globe. We are able to take the lessons we learned from manufacturing quality cylinder hone tools, honing stones and honing machines and apply them to customer-specific machining projects with uncompromising quality. We also offer clothespin style hole-deburring tools, including the ability to deburr cross holes. Headquartered in Angola, Indiana, we are a values-based enterprise uniquely positioned to provide our customers with innovative solutions that deliver improved quality and value. We believe that the quality of the whole team and their involvement in problem solving has been, and is, the crucial component to the success we have enjoyed over the last 30+ years. Our technical staff works with our customers to help solve honing problems including implementing the proper cylinder honing tool, honing stone and other honing machines. We also help to improve process performance. Honing is a specialized niche in the machining industry. Because of this specialization, companies typically do not have honing experts on staff. Many of our customers use our staff as an extension of their own engineering departments to manage their cylinder hone, honing stones and other honing operations. We service our customers by providing design, engineering, R&D services, prototyping, and complimentary consulting & field servicing.
