Hole DeburringBurr-Ban tools are an intuitive solution to troublesome burrs that develop during machining. These simple hole deburring and chamfering tools can be fit on most machines and only require a spinning action. Holes are deburred with a single in and out stroke on either or both sides of the workpiece. The amount of chamfer required is controlled by an easily adjustable tension ring. The clothespin style design allows the tool to deburr the front edge of the workpiece, compress through the bore, then deburr the back edge of the workpiece in a single pass. The interior of the bore is left unchanged; as the tool compresses through the bore the cutting edges have no contact with the workpiece. No specific table of speeds and feeds can be applied to Burr-Ban tools. In most instances it is advisable to follow drill feed and speeds for the material and hole size in question. This, in turn, is governed by the exact specifications of the job and amount of chamfer desired. A slight chamfer will always occur with Burr-Ban tools. If more is desired, the cutting edge of the tool will be designed accordingly. Usually a feed stroke in the direction of the burring operation is required, i.e., forward feed for front-burring and back-feed for back-burring. However, many jobs are done very successfully with the Burr-ban tools hole deburring both front and back of the workpiece on the forward feed stroke alone. Approximately 3000-5000 holes can be deburred per tool. Variables such as the type of material, hardness of material, tension of the tool, size of the tool and feeds and speeds can all affect tool life. It is possible to increase tool life further by re-sharpening the tool with a face grinder. Styles
